Red Hood’s logo inextricably ties his character to The Dark Knight of Gotham City, but maybe it’s time for Jason to finally rethink his branding!

The various members of the Bat-Family share an obvious visual motif as they fight crime on the streets of Gotham City, but for one hero, Jason Todd aka Red Riding Hoodwearing a giant red bat symbol on his chest not only has a hidden meaning, but goes beyond it in a way that practically becomes a weakness.

A tactical error brought to the attention of readers in 2016 Red Hood and the Outlaws series, the third and fifth issues, written by Scott Lobdell and drawn by Dexter Soy, see Red Hood cross paths with the ruthless Batman villain named Black Mask. Undercover with this Gotham villain to stop Black Mask from using a newly born Superman clone to enact his evil agenda, Red Hood’s choice in costume logos is unexpectedly brought to the fore in a way that fans might have initially glossed over.

As seen in Red Riding Hood and the Outlaws #3 during a scene where an undercover Jason is having dinner with Black Mask, Jason is asked about the emblem on his chest and whether or not he has any ties to Batman. Then in Red Riding Hood and the Outlaws #5Jason has Black Mask on the ropes, with Black Mask recalling their dinner conversation, revealing a hidden meaning behind why Red Hood uses the bat symbol in the first place.

Black Mask calls Red Hood for logo choice

While talking about food, Jason tells Black Mask that the only reason he wears the bat symbol is because he likes to “pull the guy’s wings”, an answer that Black Mask is suspicious of but accepts for the sake of it. moment. But after Red Hood’s true allegiance is revealed, Black Mask argues that despite Jason’s earlier answer, Jason wears the bat symbol because it’s a “leash” to keep Jason “tethered” to Batman. , making him not an “outlaw” but a “wandering kid looking for your father’s love,” giving fans two clear examples of why Red Hood sporting a bat logo mouse is a tactical mistake as well as a nod to his family ties.

While the continued use of the Bat emblem is an obvious exercise in corporate synergy to keep Jason Todd connected to Batman (at least in the real world), in the DC Universe, Jason’s enemies don’t know his origin or his connections to other characters – i.e. the people he loves, the lines he won’t cross, and the allegiances he holds – make his choice by using that specific head-scratching logo, to say the least, especially when he’s undercover. Plus, with Black Mask calling Jason later, the hidden idea of Jason projecting his dad’s issues for all to see and potentially exploiting, it all comes down to a logo design that might cause more trouble than it does. ‘worth it.

Red Hood has changed his logo more than once over the years, but by tying himself inextricably to the shadow of the bat, he inadvertently gives his enemies an idea of what he is, as he wears also his broken heart on his sleeve – or rather his chest – for all to see. It could be incredibly stupid to Red Riding Hood to offer his dealings with the Bats uninvited, but at least when most villains see a vigilante who’s part of the Bat-Family coming their way, they head for the hills.

The Nissan Juke was certainly a success. Since the launch of the first model in 2010, UK sales of the British-built Juke have exceeded 340,000 over two generations.

In terms of critical appeal, the results were more mixed. The current second-generation model holds an expert rating of 65%, which is in the top half of its class, but far behind the Ford Puma in class hire. This is, however, a significant improvement over the original Juke, which ended production with a very poor expert rating of less than 50%.

Meanwhile, Nissan has built a reputation over the past decade for its shift to electric vehicles (EVs) with the well-received Leaf. So it’s perhaps surprising that Juke and some sort of electrification haven’t been combined before.

Well, now that’s been fixed – sort of. The vehicle here is not a fully electric Juke, but a hybrid. And perhaps it’s no surprise, given Nissan’s propensity for charting its own course, that this isn’t a typical hybrid. If you’re used to the type of petrol-electric motor provided by, say, a Toyota Prius or Honda CR-V, then you’ll find driving the Juke a whole new experience.

What’s new on the Nissan Juke Hybrid?

The clue is in the title – there are slight visual tweaks, new alloy wheels, new paint shades and some equipment upgrades which extend to keyless entry and a better Bose sound system with an extra pair of speakers. But the whole point of this car is its engine, a petrol-electric hybrid unit promising more pace for less fuel and lower emissions too.

How does it look?

The Juke Hybrid looks like any other Juke. When the current second-gen version launched in 2019, it offered a rather slick style compared to its predecessor, whose visuals had divided opinion.

The car gets the latest iteration of the Nissan logo on its badge, and this sits on a grille mesh that’s also been redesigned – subtle ‘hybrid’ badging is also dotted across the car. The new color schemes are dubbed “Magnetic Blue” – chosen as the hybrid launch color – and “Ceramic Grey”.

The 17-inch and 19-inch alloy wheels also get new design options. The larger wheels fill out the arches visually better, but one would expect a less compliant ride with such big rims – but hold that thought…

What is the specification?

The overall Juke lineup has five trim levels, but hybrid models are only available in the first three. You’ll need £27,250 for an N-Connecta, which is £1,730 more than a petrol-engined variant with an automatic transmission (the closest hybrid equivalent) and £3,230 more than cars with the five-speed manual gearbox.

N-Connecta-level equipment includes Nissan’s Connect navigation system (offering TomTom traffic alerts and a suite of phone app-based services, such as finding where you park and locking from your doors), keyless entry, leather on the steering wheel and gear knob, automatic climate control and automatic wipers.

Pay another £1,500 for the Tekna and the alloys reach 19in while additions include LED front lights and screen and heated front seats, plus that Bose sound system with ten speakers instead of the previous eight. But perhaps Tekna’s most important feature is the Advanced Safety Shield package, a range of active safety measures including intelligent cruise control, blind-spot intervention, rear cross-traffic alert and the Smart Monitor. which gives a view of all sides of the car. Incidentally, the Juke was last tested by Euro NCAP in 2019, earning a five-star rating.

Top of the line is the Tekna+, another £1,400 buying a different design of 19-inch alloys and a suite of exterior and interior customization options, including two-tone metallic paint.

What does the Nissan Juke Hybrid look like inside?

If you’ve driven the current Juke in normal gasoline form, you won’t notice anything different when entering this one except directly in front of the driver. A new digital display sees the tachometer give way to a dial indicating when the car is running, in ‘eco’ cruise mode or charging the battery. And pressing a button brings up a ‘power flow monitor’, giving a visual representation of how power is flowing between the motor, battery and wheels at all times.

Otherwise, it’s like before. Driver controls are reasonably intuitive while the finish and upholstery are adequate, if not on par with rivals like Volkswagen. It’s relatively roomy for a small SUV, although a bit snug for three adults in the back. And also note that the need to accommodate the hybrid battery reduces the volume of the trunk, from 422 to 354 liters.

What’s under the hood?

This is where the new Juke gets interesting. Its hybrid drivetrain was first seen in sister brand Renault’s Captur E-Tech. A more compact 1.6-litre petrol engine is mated to an electric motor, while a second, smaller electric motor synchronizes the gears in the highly intelligent gearbox.

We are told that the electronics that control everything have been developed thanks to the experience acquired by Renault in Formula 1. These decide when the petrol engine, the electric motor or both should contribute to the propulsion or recharge the battery .

If you’re interested in the technicalities, we’ve got an in-depth analysis of that, but the effect is to produce a hybrid car that’s much more like a full-battery electric vehicle to drive – the system tries to run on just electric as much as possible and the tech guys at Nissan claim to have achieved 80% of an electric drive around an urban route.

In doing so, the transmission delivers more power – 154bhp compared to a normal petrol Juke’s 114bhp, slashing the 0-62mph time by 1.7 seconds – along with a promise of fuel economy. improved fuel and emissions. We don’t have any official government figures yet, but compared to the petrol-powered Juke with automatic gearbox, Nissan predicts around 10mpg of fuel economy improvement and up to 25g/km reduction in fuel economy. CO2 emissions.

What does the Nissan Juke Hybrid look like?

A normal hybrid starts silently, pulls away on the electric motor, then very quickly the petrol engine audibly engages – then displacement is usually obviously on the motor with short bursts of electricity, usually at speeds slow.

The Juke Hybrid also starts and pulls away silently on its electric motor, but the only way to know when the motor is joining is to watch the energy monitor on the dash – it really is that smooth. Thereafter, the three elements, engine, motor and battery, work together, but you can never tell who is doing what or when.

It’s reasonably powerful, more than the original petrol model, although there does seem to be a very slight lag when starting for quick acceleration. But then it picks up speed strongly with invisible gear changes.

An interesting addition is the “E-Pedal”. Activated by a button between the front seats, it effectively increases the battery regeneration that occurs when decelerating by applying moderate braking as soon as you take your foot off the accelerator – leave it alone and it will bring the car to a standstill. car. If you’re a smooth driver and not a power-brake-power dealer, it becomes fairly easy to drive the Juke like a one-pedal car, only using the brake if you need to come to a sudden stop.

The Juke was never known as a sport driving car for the road, city streets being its most natural environment. The Hybrid doesn’t change that, with competent handling without being involving.

Ride quality with the cars at the launch event proved slightly odd – first driving with 17-inch wheels we found the ride quite stiff with road imperfections felt in the cabin , which we weren’t looking forward to trying the 19-inch rims as generally the larger diameter means less of a supple ride. Still, the larger-wheeled Juke seemed quieter and a preferable option.

Verdict

The Nissan Juke remains a popular contender in an increasingly crowded market and this new hybrid version will likely help it retain that spot. If you find driving a traditional hybrid slightly odd and unpredictable, this one is less so. If you’re keen on going electric but less interested in price or need to plug your car in and charge it, then you might just find this car to your liking.

The price is higher than an original Juke, but not so much, especially compared to the automatic variant. Combine that with the estimated 10 mpg improvement in average fuel economy – especially with current perol prices – and you might find yourself recouping the extra expense quite quickly.

Each spring, designer and LogoLounge founder Bill Gardner sits down with a huge list of international design submissions and slowly weaves his way through them, coaxing telltale trends and patterns into the world of logo design. . This year was no different, with Gardner reviewing more than 35,000 designs from more than 200 countries and documenting his findings in LogoLounge’s annual trend report.

“The reason the LogoLounge Trends Report has become so valuable to the design community is that it opens our minds to possibilities that are relevant, real, and grounded in our collective psyche,” says Gardner, who worked on the document. over the past two decades. .

As always, this year has seen him identify everything from dominant patterns and recurring graphic shapes to changing attitudes towards type. A major theme for 2022 is a greater take on wordmarks and typography, with Reverse Stress, Super Traps and Tight all identified as trends.

Reverse Constraint

Tight

As Gardner explains in the report, Reverse Stress refers to beautifully bold wordmarks that use counterbalanced letterforms to let you know that “this brand will be your sidekick if you’re looking to have a good time.”

Super Traps encompasses a group of logos with pockets of negative space used as ink traps – once used to “counter bad behavior of ink on press” – while Tight refers to logos that are “the antithesis of the ‘don’t mind me’ sans serifs that have become ubiquitous.

Other notable trends identified by Gardner include a return to Art Nouveau influence, which he referred to as Whiplash. Originating at the end of the 19th century, and reappearing in the 60s as part of the counter-cultural movement, it is back for 2022, and seems to have lost none of its power. Gardner cites the Paper logo — which is part of Ragged Edge’s new branding and was named Creative Review’s annual winner this year — as an example.

hand points
Variray
Uvula

The appeal of human contact also remains strong. The Hand Dots trend is relatively self-explanatory, using simple yet expressive blobs to add personality to design – and a reminder that there are real people behind huge, monolithic companies. “This trend is completely handmade and we’re looking for imperfection because, frankly, humans have flaws and that can actually be a selling point,” says Gardner.

And it wouldn’t be a LogoLounge report without a brilliantly named and somewhat obscure trend. This year, it’s Luette. “These look like the oral inspection and the uvula hanging down properly at the back of the throat,” says Gardner. “Here the drops have been elevated to a high level, enclosed in an informative frame, prepared to provide context to the client’s story.”

There are many more including the use of bow tie designs, root images, almond shapes, loop lettering and bursting rays – all of which are available to read more in The report.

There is nothing simple about the technology that enters Mercedes-Benz cars, long considered some of the best engineered vehicles on the road. Ironically, the emblem representing the corporate face of the automaker does not represent this complexity, nor as brazen as Ferrari’s prancing horse or as ferocious as Lamborghini’s raging bull. Instead, the Mercedes logo is deceptively simple, looking like anything from a textless pie chart to an incomplete peace sign. The symbol is actually meant to be a three-pointed star in a ring and seems to correspond to a notion of perfection that the company has always strived for. Each point is exactly 120 degrees from the next, for openers. But even a logo that reflects such a lofty goal has had to undergo some improvements over time.

The first Daimler logo came from a postcard

The way the three-pointed star has emerged and risen to prominence over the years has its roots in two rival Germany-based operations battling for supremacy in a very fledgling industry. In 1883, German inventor and entrepreneur Karl Benz started his own company, which created what is now recognized as the first gasoline-powered vehicle two years later. Shortly after the Benz contraption appeared, two engineers named Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach ꟷ the nucleus of what would eventually grow into Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft (DMG) ꟷ created a “riding car” , a precursor to today’s motorcycle.

The two companies battled each other fiercely, innovation after innovation, with Benz and DNG creating other vehicles like trucks within a year of each other. In 1901, Daimler finally launched the first Mercedes in the form of a two-seater with a 35 hp engine. After a year of production, DMG decided to mark its creation by stamping its first-ever logo on the car, which featured the Mercedes text contoured to fit inside a horizontal oval.

RELATED: 10 Best Car Logos Ever (And Their Meanings)

Unfortunately, Gottlieb Daimler died before the first Mercedes left the factory. As a tribute, the folks at DMG recalled that the trailblazer frequently scribbled a curious star on postcards he had sent to his wife years earlier. According to company folklore, Daimler believed that the star, which featured three dots, was a good luck charm for the company. Later interpretations revealed that each dot represented elementary parts of the world where the company could dominate: on land, on water, and in the air. In 1909 DMG incorporated the star as part of a rebranding strategy for Mercedes models. That same year, Benz had released an ornate emblem, complete with a crown that would eventually find its way into the Mercedes logo design many years later.

Benz-DMG merger creates more changes

In 1916, DMG opted for a bolder look for its three-pointed star to reflect the Mercedes’ opulent status. The designers added four small three-pointed stars in the circular margins surrounding the main star image. They also added an adventurous color scheme of black, red and gold with the Mercedes model name wrapped around the bottom of the logo. This image would define the look of DMG for another decade, until a major upheaval created massive waves in the German automotive industry.

RELATED: 10 Most Iconic Automotive Logos And The Fascinating Stories Behind Them

The 1920s saw a battered and impoverished Germany in reparations following the loss of World War I, with the country’s economy plagued by inflation and low trade activity. In response, Benz and DMG collaborated on tandem projects to keep their respective company’s overheads low. One such venture included the creation of the Mercedes-Benz Automobil GmbH marketing initiative in 1924. Two years later, the competitors merged as Daimler-Benz AG, which created the first Mercedes-Benz automobile . The three-pointed star survived the rebranding, but with its ornate Mercedes-Benz border, filled in with the crowns that were originally part of the Benz emblem.

The merger improved the new company’s financial situation, but not for long, when the stock market crash of 1929 ushered in the Great Depression. Adverse economic conditions have forced businesses to adapt in order to adapt. A symbol of the company’s reduction in excess fat, the Mercedes-Benz logo, which in 1933 required designers to remove text, colors, crowns and other window dressing to the point where the star three-pointed was nothing more than a silhouette in a circle. It’s an image that hasn’t changed drastically since.

The Mercedes-Benz logo retains its simple appearance

Since 1933 the Mercedes-Benz logo has seen only adjustments in its appearance, starting in 1989 with a multi-dimensional upgrade with different shades of metallic gray to augment a chrome look. Twenty years later, additional logo processing focused on thinning the ring to make the star more visible. By 2011, the ring had returned to its previous size, with more retouching added to the logo for a livelier chrome appearance.

Over the years, the simplicity of the Mercedes-Benz logo makes it easier to remember and reproduce for a variety of mediums, from print to fashion, which has essentially transformed the emblem into a portable billboard. and a practical marketing tool. This simplicity transcends elegance, while additional gray accents conjure up images of silver that not only cement Mercedes-Benz as a luxury brand, but make Mercedes-Benz one of the most famous cars in the world. planet.

Orton Winfield Patch BARRE – Orton Winfield Patch, 88, died peacefully on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, after a month-long battle with the flu at his winter home in San Tan Valley, Arizona. His passing left a giant hole in our hearts, but we are comforted by the thought that his last moments were spent at home, with his family by his side, and that he is now reunited with his friends, relatives, his beloved family and pets. Born on Sunday February 25, 1934, at home on the family farm north of Calais, he was the only child of Llewellyn Clifford and Leola (LeBarron) Patch. Orton attended North Calais Primary School and graduated from Spaulding Secondary School in 1952. As a young boy, when he was of working age, Orton delivered the newspaper ‘Grit’ in the North Calais. He loved the outdoors and knew every side road and shortcut. He hunted birds, bear and deer in his youth. In his youth, he built a flat-bottomed boat to spear or shoot pike. Once, while hunting in Calais, he saw a cougar basking in the sun on a large rock. Ever since he grew up on the family farm, Orton loved all wild animals and had a pet crow named “Smokey” and a black horse named “Midnight”. Even as adults, animals were drawn to Orton, and likewise, Orton to them. A familiar chipmunk sat on his lap as he relaxed on the porch. This same chipmunk also sat on the workbench in the “shop” next to his hand, watching him work on a project. He appreciated all the gifts of nature. One of Orton’s greatest accomplishments was meeting and winning the heart of the “love of his life”, the beautiful Patricia Ann Smith. Their first date in 1951 was a “Sadie Hawkins Dance” where Pat invited him to the dance which took place at Montpelier High School. After that, they were inseparable and danced every Saturday!! They married on June 18, 1955 and would have celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary this summer. At an early age, Orton was a true natural artist. While in high school, he designed, built, and entered a “Futuristic Model Car” in a Fisher-Body, General Motors Division vehicle competition—his entry won first place. Orton began his career as a graphic artist in 1950 for the Barre Sign Co. In 1984 he went freelance as the owner of Graphic Excellence by Ortsigns. Throughout his career, he has produced numerous signs for local and national businesses. Some of the signs are still visible on Main Street in Barre. In addition, he wrote and affixed gold leaf signs to many Vermont fire trucks, town trucks, and police vehicles. He also designed the seal of Barre Town and affixed a gold leaf seal to the entrance gates of the Montpelier State Capitol. Orton had 61 years of experience in logo design, original art and (free) hand lettering before he retired. He was a hard worker and often volunteered for community associations or took on extra jobs to support the growing family. Since 1973, he has served part-time for the Barre City and Barre Town Police Departments, and for the Washington County Sheriff’s Department (until age 80). He was a member of the Vermont State Auxiliary Police and served 30 years with the East Barre Fire Department. From 1952 to 1961, Orton was a member of the Vermont National Guard and again from 1977 to 1993 when he re-enlisted in the Army National Guard and Reserves for a total of 25 years. Orton was a devoted family man. When his son was young, he was a Webelos Scout leader. Together, the Cubs have had many adventures! There was nothing electrical, plumbing, or carpentry he couldn’t build or fix. He could always be found tinkering with or remodeling the 200-plus-year-old farmhouse, fixing automobiles, or helping their daughter build a cabin in New Mexico. He built a complete van for the family of six, and their first trip was to EXPO ’67 in Canada. He loved history, mystery, museums and travel. Some of the favorite places he visited were Hawaii, Alaska, Eastern and Western Caribbean, Jamaica, Cozumel, Cancun, Yellowstone, the Redwoods, Mount Rushmore, Custer’s Last Stand, Crazy Horse, Disney World, Winchester House , Oak Island, the Smithsonian, Wooly Mammoth Paleontological Site, all of the USA, Nova Scotia, PEI, Canada and any cruise or RV adventure!! For the past 15 years, Pat and Orton have spent six summer months at Lake Champagne RV Resort in Randolph Center, Vermont, and winters in San Tan Valley, Arizona. Orton, Pat and their family also loved the live gigs, ranging from presenters at Vermont State Fair venues to Elton John, George Strait, Toby Keith, Garth Brooks, Mannheim Steamroller, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Andre Rieu, Alan Jackson, Andrea Bocelli, ZZ Upstairs, the Oakridge Boys and Randy Travis. For 60 years, Orton and Pat called Barre home. They were madly in love and had four children, Viki Patch, of San Tan Valley, Arizona, Marc (Jane) Patch, of Pittsford, Vermont, Kimberli Ward (boyfriend Michael Carbonneau), of Graniteville, Vermont, and Erin Salvas, of Washington , Vermont; three grandchildren, Pierce, Ryan and Christopher; and two great-grandchildren, Maxwell and MiaBella Grace. Orton is also survived by his beloved pets, Smiti (Bichon Frize’), Asha Daria (Pug), Mozart (German Shepherd), Lizzie (Shih Tzu), Sissy (German Shepherd Husky)… and Gryphin (the cat) . Orton helped his children discover their greatest strengths and taught them to meet challenges head-on. He was really the axis around which revolved and still revolve many lives. He watched over us all, loved us and protected us. He will always be infinitely big, infinitely strong, and his heritage, his artistic talent, his curious spirit, his generosity, his love for all animals, his sense of humor and his laughter, are now ours. Instead of sadness, celebrate, but not too much… a glass of wine or maybe two. A piece of peach or apple pie. A long road back. A kiss, maybe one… or more than one. He taught his children to find their own way. There was no place we couldn’t go. Aim for the stars. Protect the little ones and the fragile. Be kind to others. To smile, laugh and joke. Always be ready to lend a hand. He encouraged us to be ourselves, and ultimately… what a good friend a dog could be. The service to honor and celebrate his life will be held Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Hooker Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy St., Barre. After the service, interment will be at 1 p.m. at Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery at the Randolph Center. There are no calling hours. For a memorial guestbook, please visit www.hookerwhitcomb.com In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity or Alzheimer’s charity of one’s choice. If you value your freedom, thank a veteran.

Among the many games released in the Assassin’s Creed franchise, Assassin’s Creed: Revelations tends to be overlooked by many fans of the series. With gameplay mechanics that have only ever been seen in Assassin’s Creed: Revelationslike the Hook Blade and the various bombs players could craft, and headlined by fan favorite Ezio Auditore, the game has a lot to offer old and new players. Recently a fan of Assassin’s Creed: Revelations actually redesigned the game’s logo.

GAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY

Since the advent of the original Assassin’s Creed, the Assassins’ insignia has undergone numerous design changes. While the Assassin’s Creed the logo changes from game to game, only after Assassin’s Creed 3 did insignia designs begin to take center stage in terms of marketing each game. Thus, the insignia seen in Assassin’s Creed: Revelations was never used in the game’s promotional material, but thanks to the talented efforts of a fan, players will now have an idea of what it might look like.

On Reddit, a user named akaanoner posted an image that serves as a redesign for the Assassin insignia found in Assassin’s Creed: Revelations. The design itself is comparatively more minimal than seen in Assassin’s Creed: Revelationsbut it also clearly draws inspiration from Constantinople, where the majority of the game takes place.

The redesign seems somewhat reminiscent Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, especially given the ornate design along the triangular sides of the badge. Not to mention how the shape of the badge looks more minimalistic, but on closer inspection there’s a tremendous amount of detail, with even red, blue and green shapes appearing along the badge, probably intended to symbolize jewelry.

Anyway, it’s nice to see older games in the Assassin’s Creed continue to be recognized and appreciated by the gaming community. By comparison with assassin’s creed 2 and Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, Assassin’s Creed: Revelations tends to get overshadowed, which is likely due to its divergence in setting and gameplay, but even now the game has a lot to bring to the table.

Either way, it will be interesting to see what the future holds. Assassin’s Creed go forward. Currently, there have been several rumors regarding the development of a new title called Assassin’s Creed Rift. While fans of the series have only rumors and speculation, hopefully an official update from Ubisoft will likely be revealed in the coming months.

Assassin’s Creed: Revelations is now available for PC, PS3, PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
