City of Coronado Unveils Newly Redesigned and Responsive Website
The City of Coronado launched its newly revamped website this week, which has undergone a nearly year-long redesign process by CivicPlus, a leading government website provider.
the website looks good and has a powerful search tool, a new web design, and most importantly, a cleaner, easier-to-navigate layout. Citizens and other users will see a familiar but improved website that improves information availability, maintains transparency, provides up-to-date information and increases responsiveness.
Visitors will still be able to access calendars, ask Coronado to submit service requests, manage email subscriptions, job postings, agendas and minutes, the latest city news and publications, comment Coronado, Coronado TV and all city services, including the new Coronado Public Library booth-only webpages and, in mid-June, Arts and Culture.
“With our new website, the city will increase community engagement and improve communication between residents and local government,” said City Manager Tina Friend. “We are excited about the launch.”
The Coronado City Council approved the project to continue in 2021 because the existing website was outdated. During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, reliable access to the city’s website was paramount, but there was a multi-day outage that showed the site’s weaknesses.
At the top of the homepage there are large bold tabs for “Government”, “Residents”, “Businesses”, “Visitors” and “How Do I” drop down menus which take the user to topics of interest. Below are buttons that will take users to ‘Agendas and Minutes’, ‘Municipal Code’, ‘Report a Problem’ and ‘Job Opportunities’. The homepage features an inviting new video of Coronado at the top of the page.
If you scroll a little further, users will find links to some of the city’s most popular services, such as Recreation and Golf, Library, Fire and Police. There are also links to Arts & Culture and a Connect page, where you can find all the ways to keep up to date with city news.
The calendar section includes one for meetings and another for events. This is new because previously the Town only had a meeting calendar on the home page of the website. Right below, visitors can find the latest news. As with the previous website, residents can create their own account and request specific notifications for things like meetings, events, and newsletters. The City’s social media accounts can be found at the bottom of the homepage. Just click on the icons.
