Haunted Chocolatier: All the info on Stardew Valley’s successor

Even if you don’t recognize Haunted Chocolatier by name yet, you can probably tell who makes it from a single screenshot. After spending several years on major updates and quality of life fixes for Stardew Valley, creator Eric Barone is working on his next game. From what we know so far, Haunted Chocolatier will be sharing a lot with Stardew Valley even though it’s heading into new territory: having you run a store instead of a farm. We also know that the little ghosts that help run your shop are extremely adorable.

After the surprise announcement in 2021, Barone was characteristically quiet about the development of Haunted Chocolatier. As usual, the information often comes in the form of teaser images and enigmatic clues. While we wait to find out when Haunted Chocolatier will open, here’s everything we’ve learned about it so far.

Here is the first trailer for Haunted Chocolatier

The first trailer for Haunted Chocolatier really looks like it will be very familiar to Stardew Valley fans. Barone uses the same art style, although he said the pixel art was mostly baked fresh for Chocolatier. It looks like we’ll be fighting enemies, talking with locals, and making chocolates for our own shops.

So what kind of game is Haunted Chocolatier?

Instead of a farming simulation, Chocolatier is a shop simulation where you will create chocolate and sell it in your store. Like Stardew, Chocolatier has a local town full of shops and NPCs with their own stories that you’ll get to know as you grow your shop.

“I don’t know how to best describe it,” Barone said in his announcement blog post, “but at its core, the gameplay loop involves gathering ingredients, making chocolate, and running a chocolate factory. ”

One thing that Barone went a bit further on is the fight, which he believes will focus more in his next game. Chocolatier will have shields, which you can use to block attacks and stun enemies accordingly. Barone says there will be other secondary items as alternatives to shields to complement different playstyles.

The reveal trailer also showed a player using a bow and arrow. Cared for!

We don’t have a whole lot of explanation on exactly how your Chocolate Factory works, but there are a few snippets to grab in the reveal trailer. You can see a player choosing from different counter styles, arranging different types of chocolate on their shop counters, and a host of characters walking around the shop while it’s open as your ghost friends carry chocolate around. above their heads.

Barone also mentioned in a interview with VGKami that Chocolatier will have romantic relationships again. “There will be relationships like in Stardew Valley. I haven’t decided exactly how the system will work yet. And I expect to approach some things differently this time around.”

What is the release date of Haunted Chocolatier?

We don’t yet know when Haunted Chocolatier will launch. Barone first announced this with a reveal trailer in October 2021. In the past, Barone has often kept details about Stardew Valley updates quiet and released teaser images very sparingly. We can probably expect the same when developing Haunted Chocolatier. When it was announced, Barone said he had been working on it for more than a year in secret.

“While the video I put together might make it look like the game is in an advanced stage of development, there’s still a ton of stuff to do,” Barone said of the reveal trailer. “And the way I work, things often only fall into place in the last moments.”

Is Haunted Chocolatier cooperative?

No, Haunted Chocolatier will be solo only. Along with Stardew Valley, multiplayer was added as a major post-launch game update. Barone does not plan to do the same this time around. As with early Stardew, modders may find a way to add multiplayer even without official support.

Will Haunted Chocolatier have mods?

Barone has yet to specifically mention modding support or tools for Haunted Chocolatier, but I think it’s a very safe bet to assume that there will be mods for Chocolatier regardless. Barone has supported modders for his years of Stardew Valley updates, and the same will likely be true with Chocolatier. Given the number of Stardew Valley mods out there, fans of Barone’s second game will likely be just as eager to start adding their own custom parts.

Here are the Haunted Chocolatier characters we’ve seen

Local villagers will likely be an important part of Chocolatier as they are in Stardew Valley. Here are the few characters we’ve seen in the reveal trailer so far:

  • Read – She lives in a house full of neon lights and plants, but that’s all we know!
  • burk – He seems to run a forge and a shop that sells weapons.
  • Maddie – Another villager, although we don’t know anything about her either.
  • Jet – Works in a research lab for someone named Dr. Tungsten.
  • nigel – A local bartender in what looks like an underground bar.
