Web Design 101: 5 Things to Remember When Designing a Successful Website

At Coast, we see websites every day as part of our normal routine. Each has their own unique features that draw us to them. But in order to make a website attractive and engaging, design is just as important as functionality.

The design of a website is a key factor in customer engagement i.e. traffic. These days, there is hardly a business that doesn’t have a website in some form or another. We live in a digital world, so when we are looking for a product or a service, we all go on the internet. This means that their website can often be the first impression people have of a given brand, and no one wants to make a bad impression.

A well-designed website is an attractive website with useful features as well as the message that the company wants to convey to its visitors. If a website has a great design, it will ensure the customer has a good website browsing experience. For example, a professionally created logo gives an identity to a business, just as a website gives an identity to any corporate brand. There are a few basic rules of thumb that designers should follow when designing a website, here are 5.

# 1. Be consistent throughout

Consistency is extremely important when designing a website.

Symmetry should flow on every page of the website. You should use the same font, color, and design style throughout the website. The header, footer, and body section should be well designed and attractive to a client.

# 2. Think about navigation

Another important point that designers should keep in mind when designing a website is navigation. With a lot of information and pages on a website, it becomes even more important. Navigating the website, or “the user journey,” is something you should always pay close attention to. A customer needs to be able to easily find even the most basic information – like a phone number or email address – or you risk leaving the site because they find it too complicated.

Well-maintained navigation makes it easy for the user to find the information they want on the website. A customer will spend more time on the site if they have a properly designed navigation, which means that it allows you to retain prospects and convert them into buying customers. Therefore, navigation is all about making your website easy to access and navigate.

# 3. Use the “F” word!

The most common pattern used for designing a website is something called the F-Pattern.

Studies have shown that every time customers visit the website, they search for the pattern F. This means their eyes are naturally drawn to look left to right and then top to bottom – like the shape of the page. the letter F. We read from left to right, so we tend to look more to the left. -side of the screen / of the page and less to the right.

It’s up to the designer to give visitors the natural flow of reading rather than forcing them to a specific section in an unnatural way. It gives them a better user experience and attracts more users to the website. Therefore, many websites tend to use the “F” shaped design as standard.

# 4. Keep it simple!

Simplicity is the best. No matter what type of website you are designing, a simple design is most often considered the best option.

Too complicated a design is no guarantee of attractiveness, but a simple design can work wonders. If a website appears to be too “busy” with many elements in the web page, then it can distract users. Clean design makes it more attractive and allows user to locate information easily.

# 5. Make sure it is compatible with mobile devices

It is safe to say that most of us all have a mobile phone, so another very important factor that a designer should take into account when designing a website is responsiveness. What will the site look like when viewed on a mobile or tablet?

Today, on average, 70% of website visitors are mobile users. The number of mobile users is increasing every day and will only continue to increase as mobile devices continue to dominate the digital landscape. Websites need to be responsive so they can adapt to different devices and screen sizes. If a website is not responsive, it can make it difficult to navigate the site and potentially deter users and increase bounce rate. Without any effort on the part of the users, the layout should change and adapt accordingly.

By keeping these fundamentals in mind, your website will be mobile-friendly.

So in summary….

Trends in the design industry keep changing and always will. Technology and software are constantly evolving, and this also applies to website design. Designers need to stay on top of these trends to stay ahead of the game.

A website isn’t just for showing off, it’s there to generate interest, increase sales, and grow your business. So, if we keep the basic principles of website design in mind, we can be sure that a well-designed website will be attractive, engaging and successful.
